This Design/Build project involved the construction of a new 10,740
sq. ft. multi-purpose station building. The 2-story building houses
a communications center, galley, messdeck, offices, mechanical
spaces, and 12 berthing rooms. The new structure was designed and
built to comply with the latest coastal hurricane survivability
codes. Work included timber foundation pile installation, building construction, sitework, utility connections, paving, removal and disposal of two office trailers, capping of the utilities to the trailers, demolition of the wood deck adjacent to the trailers, pilings, concrete footings, masonry foundation walls and a precast plank floor system. |
The structure consisted of a structural steel envelope, light gauge
metal wall framing, and plywood shear walls throughout. Mechanical
systems included a complete HVAC system, complete electrical
including a new emergency generator, a fire protection system with
new fire pump and tank, security, communications and a lightning
protection system.
