| Tesoro Corporation named top growth company in Virginia by Virginia Business | |
In the May, 2003 issue of Virginia Business, Tesoro Corporation was named the top growth company in Virginia. Fifty companies were selected by the accounting firm of Goodman & Company and named to the "Fantastic 50." The "Fantastic 50" is a contest that was started by Virginia Business eight years ago to recognize outstanding businesses headquartered in the commonwealth. The sponsors include the Virginia Chamber, Goodman & Company, SunTrust Bank, Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology and Virginia Business magazine. To make the list, a company had to be privately owned, headquartered in Virginia, had revenues of at least $200,000 in 1998, had a net positive income by 2001, and had revenues of less than $100 million in their most recent fiscal year. Tesoro Corporation has not only made this exclusive list of companies, but was at the top of this group of Virginia's outstanding companies. Virginia Business notes that all of this year's winners are special considering the economic times. In 2001, the economy went soft, and then there was the fallout from the terrorist attacks of September 11 of that year. Considering the economic conditions, our growth was truly exceptional. |
